What's happening?

Lagos is known worldwide for afrobeats — and rightly so. But in neighbourhoods like Yaba there is another musical city: small garage studios, parties for fifty people and artists blending alté, post-punk and electronics.

Kọ́lá Drift and Ìlú Glass represent two paths through this scene: the cutting guitar and the distorted talking drum. Both release independently and circulate more on foreign online radio than on local stations.

What makes this moment interesting is precisely the mismatch: music made in Lagos that has not yet been recognised in Lagos.
